-{ Hey everyone! Been almost a week since our last blog, but we have just set up the internet in the flat, so should be a regular blog on the go now. It does however mean that this is a mega long one!}-
Flight,
This time we decided to leave in style in premium economy which is a lot nicer than just economy - more leg room, nicer free stuff, different food choices etc. cost us about £40 each to upgrade but very much worth it! The only reason the option came up was because we couldn’t get seats together in economy. When we sat down excited by the fact that the seats were leather and the blankets were purple, they offered us a drink so we both chose an orange juice which Stuart spilled all over me before the plane had even moved. He claims it was an accident, I’m not so sure! He was trying to find the table which was in the arm rest of the chair but when it flipped up it knocked the glass over and spilt all over my jeans, chair and shoes. Had to wear stuarts shorts the whole flight.
Arriving in Sydney,
When arrived in Sydney after collecting our baggage a woman came and asked us a few questions and we somehow manage to skip the general que to get baggage scanned. No idea how we managed it but it cut off about 15mins of our wait.
So after our short cut through the airport, which earned us more than a few glares from the long long queue. We came out to see my sister, Was so good Seeing Katharine! She looks fantastic, which apparently living in oz does to you, so hoping it has the same effect on me. Lol so Straight out the airport, and straight into the sun! was 7 in the morning and we were cruising over the Sydney harbour bridge with the windows down. Was amazing!
First day in Sydney 8.10.08
The apartment’s in Mosman, which is apparently where wealthy people stay, and by looking around I’d say that was pretty correct. The main street with the shops has a very Glasgow west end feel to it, except for you know, the sun, and the heat, the lack of rain, and that most shops are directed towards healthy living, like lots of fresh fruit and veg shops, fresh butchers, all nice little cafĂ©’s. not any fast food joints in Mosman.
So we arrived in Sydney, came back to the apartment, got showered and changed, and kat took us for a nice breakfast up at the main street, French toast, Canadian maple syrup, strawberries, and then added bacon. Mmmmmm. And a vanilla milkshake! Lol. Kat had pineapple juice, and eva had apple juice, both of which were actually made from there respective fruits, like almost smoothie style, was very nice. Although the apple one looked a lot like bogeys. Which I kept telling eva as she drank. LOL
Kat then headed off to a meeting, so me and eva began the long walk out to taronga zoo…. $39.90 to get in each, but man is it worth it! By far the best zoo I’ve seen in the world… well, I’ve only really been to Edinburgh zoo so… lol the tiger was stunning, giraffe’s were well cool. The sea lion’s and seal’s were just amazing! And of course the kangaroo’s, you could walk right in past them, it was really cool. There was a HUGE reptile collection, plenty of snakes, big ass most deadly venom in the world could eat you whole types. And of course, the koala’s, gotta love the koala’s. though in a zoo where you can’t touch them, they’r pretty borin, they just sit there….
Eva’s thong broke… it was funny! Walking round the middle of this zoo with a broken thong. Poor her. I would have gave her mine but it didn’t fit. It was making her walk funny, all the way back to the apartment, a good half hour walk. And she managed to cut her foot on the way because of it… oh yeah.. For all you non-aussie folk… flip flops are called thongs here.
Back at apartment, and I seem to have lost my key for the padlock on my suitcase, had grab some cutter thing to cut it open.
Katharine had the car, so she drove us to manly beach, stunning stunning beach, although when we went, it was quite late, very windy and a bit cool. It was however, Eva’s first ever dip into the pacific ocean! Sure to be the first of many in our travels up the coast.
Later that night it was our first trip on the ferries that run from Mossman into circular quay(inbetween the harbour bridge and the opera house). So you can imagin the view at dusk with the sun going/gone down behind the bridge as you sail up to it.think the photo’s have been up loaded already. It was breathtaking.
We trekked all the way out to darling harbour, went for a stunning meal with a great view back onto the city with all the tall buildings and the lights. However by this point, me and eva were ready for falling asleep in our food. The food which I must say was really good. So after dinner got a taxi straight back which we kept falling asleep in which became rather hilarious. Don’t ask why I think we were just a bit out of it with the jetlag. Lol
So ends the first day in Sydney.

3rd day in Sydney 10.10.08
First thing we did today, was open an Australian bank account. And it is nothing like back home. You have to pay them monthly. For $3 a month your allowed no more than 6 withdrawls a month. That includes whether you buy stuff with card or taking cash out the cash machine. And for $5 a month you get unlimited withdrawls, but only if you use that banks cash machines, if you use any other cash machines you will get charged extra. So that’s pretty rubbishy.
We then headed straight down to balmoral beach, was a lovely beach. Had fish and chips while we were down there, wasn’t bad, it was a completely different type of fish obviously.
That night we went to this VERY swanky bar under the opera house called, the opera bar. Went and ment all of Katharine’s friends here, all really nice people. Was really good. Beers were rubbish though. Was like $8 or more for a lager, and it came in like a normal tumbler, it couldn’t have been much more than half a pint! If that! Was rage. Safe to say none of the guys there could really keep up with a hardened Scottish drinker like eva… I mean myself… lol. Still suffering from jetlag though, we left the bar about 10 and left them all to it so we could go sleep some more. An incredible sight that we managed to see from the bar however, was the fruit bats, the thousands of fruit bats that live in botanic gardens, all taking to flight and flying out across the water. Was magnificent to see.

4th day in Sydney 11.10.08
We trooped down to Balmoral beach again but by the time we had arrived it had started to cloud over and was a wee bit chilly! Eva’s new thongs cut open her toes so she has decided they are devil spawn and seeks revenge. We finally got internet today -yay- we had so much to write about that its taken us this long to actually finish the blog! We also tried mangos for the first time today. NOM!
5th day in Sydney 12.10.08
We had our first proper macdonalds over here, it was very good! The fanta tastes better than it does in the UK. Then we wandered over to near the art galleries as there seemed to be something going on. There was a Turk-fest, we were gutted, we didn’t see Turk or any other member of the Scrubs cast for that matter!
I decide that I love shoes and need to go into every shoe shop that I see, where as stuart decides he is going to start a hat collection (he still hasn’t bought his first hat) The STA Travel shop was closed so we decided to go to Bondi junction instead which had lots of cool shops and we saw a KFC!! didn’t go in and buy anything though, which is a first!
After a few hours at bondi junction we got the bus to bondi beach, which was absolutely mobbed because it was the weekend, but you could see the attraction, white sands, blue water, plenty of surf and surfers! That evening we had our first aussie bbq (or Barbie as they call it over here!) there was a feast of food! We got a taxi back earlyish and stu bought a mars crunch, because he hadn’t seen it back home, tasted pretty damn good!
