2nd day in byron bay!
we just wondered the shops for a while, then headed down the beach. i rented a surf board being all cocky caus i hadn't found it that difficult at the lesson at surf camp. so got the free surf board hire from the hostel. then headed down the beach. eva lay sunbathing while i put the surf board under my arm and headed out to sea. well. think i spent like half an hour out there, trying wave after wave, before i eventually gave up and came back in. The surf boards were alot smaller than the beginner ones.. impossible to get your balance. the waves were pretty big, there were a few dumping ones, safe to say i got battered about a bit. was pretty frustrating. but i'm not disheartened! I'll be back! with a bigger board next time. and i'll show poseidon who's boss.
after the beach we had planned to go up and cook a huge stir fry for everyone, but a guy came rounf with fliers to get big full proper meals for $5 again, so everyone got a bit lazy and headed across the road. it was like a proper party bar though, and we had plans for early EARLY the nest morning, so we just stayed, for the meal, bought a jug of beer, got a free jug of beer, then left. before the wet t-shirt competition. lol then it was back to the apartment and sleep around 11pm.
so this morning (friday 31st oct 08)
alarm goes off at 4.00.
stuart is straight up and dressed.
eva adam and mark still in bed.
20 mins later, thers a slight sign of movement.
5 mins after then people start to roll out of bed.
4.35 people meet us at the front of hostel.
about half the people that were ment to.
we set off for our 5 mile walk.
getting lost along the way in the pitch dark.
climbing hills.
starting to worry we were going to miss it.
finally arriving at the top of the hill at the end of the point to see the brightest lighthouse in the southern hemisphere, on the most easterly point at all of australia, and one of the very first point in the world to see the sun. its the first in all of australia to see the sunrise. it was amazing. absolutely stunning. the 6 of us that made the walk were compeletely blown away. was totally worth the 5 mile hike!
7.09am we arrived back at the hostel and it was straight back to bed.
9.00am we got up and showered and had to cram everything back into our bag.
we then went and bout another travel bag so that we could fit our new purchases and such. and then came to tell you lovwely lot about our last day!
and now its off to subway! yum! talk soon.

On The Road Again
hello from byron bay! we're currently sitting in an internet cafe on the main street here before we go hit the beach for a while, stu's wanting to rent a surf board for a few hours because he loved his surf lesson at spot x so much!
travels began on monday, leaving sydney at half 6 on the oz experience bus, first guide we got was Uncle Buck who filled us in on some interesting facts on the way up the road, such as - Someone managed to survive the fall from the sydney harbour bridge because they were wearing welly boots, which broke his fall! We stopped off at a few places along the way to surf camp, we visted a koala hospital which was run all by voulenteers, there was about 6 or so koalas there, with a range of ages. They looked so huggable! the next place we stopped off at was this really large field which had litterally thousands of kangaroos! so we saw the 2 most remembered ozzie animals in one day! They look so funny when theres a bunch of them that start hopping about!
Just before reaching surf camp, uncle buck took us to a drive through bottle shop, well it was ment to be, they normally just come out to your car at the drive trhough, you tell them what you want then, they got it for you without you having to move... but we had a bus load of crazy alcoholic backpackers so we all went in. me and eva chipped in with 5 other people and got 3 big crates of beer, (24 per crate), and a bottle of vodka. we thought it would last us to byron... it didn't.
surf camp was an amazing amazing place, it was like kind of secluded with its only kind of beach with really good waves for learning on. bout 4+ft high. but it was so chilled out, like they had long couches round the camp fire, and it was just like a total paradise atmosphere! We'll get sum pictures up as soon as we can. Surfing is the best thing ever!
so leaving surf camp the following day and heading to byron bay! first stop... subway! and all you people out there who have ever eaten with me, i actually had lettuce, green peppers, jalapinos, and carrot od my subway! as well as chicken. think the carrot was a bad choice though.
so next stop, was this stunning viewpoint over our tour guides most favourite beach in australia. It looked stunning, but it was soooooo windy. we seen two people out kite surfing, and that looked absolutely mental. i think i would rather jump out of a plane..
after that, it was just a short trip to byron bay. so..
Byron Bay. First night uncle buck had organised and booked a table for us all at cheeky monkeys night club at 7.30, which is across the road from the hostel. really cheap food, and lots of free beer. i mean lots. we spent 7 dollers on 2 beers, and then had free beer for the rest of the night. like jugs. even though we were all very fragile from our drinking session the night before at surf camp. So we didn't stay out all night, left about half 11-12. They made it really fun though, like had a lot for the "oz experience" crowd. (including free beer). so defo recomend it.
The next day us and a few of the other oz experience people left byron at 10 on 'jims alternative tours' where they took us to a few different places such as a pub where we got to try macadamia nuts, then we went to Nimbin, the australian hippy village! then off through the rainforest to meet Paul, who owns hundreds of acres of land full of trees and has his own little lake too. we met other scottish people on this trip that are staying at our hostel. we arrived back for about 6. We met up with the other oz experience folks that didnt go on the tour and we all chipped in for 6 big pizzas from dominos before heading down the the beach to eat and just have a relaxed evening.
we'll upload photos as soon as we get the chance!

kings if leeeeeon

So. Yesterday. we had a nice long lie.. as has become the norm. Then due to the dull weather, and eva's enfactuation with Miss Megan Fox, we decided to check out the sydney cinemas so we could point out all the faults. We were however, pleasently suprised. Without going into all the details... they really did seem to think of everything. We were both very impressed. Not to mention there Premier, or "Gold Class" as its called. They do not just have premier seats as in our cinemas, but premier screens... a full screen of full on lazy boy recliner armchairs with a wee table, for your own private bar, where you can also get full proper resturant meals to take in. "Livin Gold Class". aw it was wonderous. Rather it Looked Wonderous. We only discovered what it was after we'd bought our tickets for the normal screen. :(
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. Great Film. Really really good. Megan Fox.. well.. enough said. Have to say, i did become a fan of kirsten dunst again after this film, and Simon Pegg was first class. Only downside, gillian Anderson looked old. This saddens me. The ex- x-files star used to be quite the looker. Oh how the mighty have fallen. aw well. Overall, very very good film.
Anyway, after that, we headed back, for a nice relaxing night with the awesome, the only, One Tree Hill. Also got paid from the odeon, so managed to tranfer our moneys. which leads me on to today...

24/10/08
So with our money in the bank, we set of this mor.... afternoon, up to the oz experience place again. This time we booked our bus ticket all the way from sydney to cairns, although we only paid for one and we have to go back tomorrow to pay the other, because of the limit on which we can spend on our cards in one day. With our tickets we get a stop off at surf camp for a night, all food and accom paid for, and a free surf lesson the next day, and we can also, stay a couple of days if we choose and get extra surf lessons.
Then its on up to byron bay, and thats as far as the nice and booked for us because she said that almost everyone wants to spend at least a couple nights in byron bay. So thats all that picked up. also picked up some leaflets for fraser island, and some for sky diving!!!
After that was sorted, headed to the famous Paddy's market. alota extra cheap stuff, however we didnt buy anythin. so we headed into market city which was like a big shopping mall. when we got the centre, My infamous sixth sense started tingling and with in second i had me and eva running up to the top floor, to find mecca, aka...... NANDO'S. oh yes. safe to say we took some pictures and then ate some chicken. was good. mmmmmm. Charlie, James, missin you lads. hope your gettin on good. mmmmmm. it was awesome.
After wondering around the shops we started to head back, when we spotted, Scruffy Murphey's irish pub. the first pub i'v been to where i could get a PINT! so a nice pint of kilkenny went down a treat, eva having the usual vodka and coke. Scruffy Murphey's does however show the SPL and champions league and more footie. so that was good to find out. ah well.
We headed home, tidied up, put on a washing, got the laptop out and.. sat down to watch harry potter and the philoserphers stone. relaxing.
Plan for tomorrow, leave the house earliest so we can start ticking off the checklist of what we need to buy for our travelling.

25th ? october 08
eva continuing this post. today we hit the shops to buy things we needed for our travels, bags, insect repellant etc as well as paying off the rest of the oz experience! oh, and we managed to leave the house a lot earlier than usual today! go us :) the weather was really sunny today, not a cloud in the sky, which makes a difference to the cloudy and windy week we've been having! tomorrow is meant to be 32 degrees! dont know if we'll get very far in that heat! we ended up in bondi junction again today, after a slight diversion (some of the train lines had been shut down over the weekend) and visited the pet shop before looking for things! we bought really good ice creams when we got back to cricular quay, just to cool us down, we sat out side the opera house enjoying the weather while eating them and we could hear someone playing bagpipes! when we finally saw where he was we noticed he was in kilt too! doubt he was actually scottish though!
this evening we watched toy story and sleepers/rugby league and now im writing this! tomorrows plan (if we can handle the heat) is to go back to bondi, get some board shorts and hats (not just for stu's collection) maybe spend a while on the beach and then get back for an early night seeing as we have to be at the oz experience office by half 6 on monday morning!

Krispy Kreme Klan
heyheyheyheyheyhey!
stu here, while eva lies next to me playing ds. theme park world to be precise! so yesterday, as eva mentioned in the last blog, we headed to the "MCA" art gallery of contempory arts, seeing as was free and we're tryin to save money. There one a few of really stand out pieces in there, aswell as some really, "what the hell how is that art" pieces, thats in my professional art degree opinion obviously. The only one we really remember the name of was a ballet film we sat and watched for a good wee while, called "heart of gold". Was actually really good.
So after wondering the 4 floors of the art gallery (they were rather small floors), we headed up towards a shopping mall to feed eva's new shop-aholic, high heel shoe obsessed hunger. wasn't much to be seen around where we were though. Beginning to get tired by this point, due to lack of food in my opinion, lol, and not wanting to waste to much money on fast food seeing as there was loads of food in the apartment. we thought about heading back, so before we did so we walked up to virgin megastore (yes it is still called that over her... none of your zavvi rubbish) to look for a cheap dvd to watch for the night. After giving up with eva's limited movie taste.. she happen to stumble on something worth more than gold.... one tree hill season 2, reduced from $80 to $35, which is about £15 at the moment. safe to say it was swiftly bought. The man at the check out asked if we were having a good day, to which eva replied "cant be a bad day if you find one tree hill on sale"
With smiles like little children after being given candy, we walked down the street, only to walk past the dreaded krispy kremes.... i would like to see any of you walk past a krispy kremes and not be hypnotiesed by the sweet smell and mouthwatering look of these incredible works of art, perfection some might say..
so we bought a half dozen box to go with our dvd's. if anyone out there hasn't experienced the delight of krispy kreme donuts before, its ok, i was once like you, deprived, in the dark, boring, uncivilised, waste of a life, but there is hope, i here it is in planning for them to expand north to glasgow. You shall be in the dark no longer my children, help and salvation is on the way! i can see it now...
ned says: "haw mate am gonna pure smash ye, pure glass bottle tae da dome"
civilised enlightened "but here young sir, how would like like a krispy kreme donut?"
"whits that your pure gay codeword or su...............
Krispy kreme donut box opens to reveal its hidden wonders
ned's jaw falls open and eyes glaze over like the sugar glaze covering each donut
ned says: " i pure love you man"
followed by...
newly civilised ned says: "oh my dear lord good fellow, i must apologise for the unpround way in which i used to destroy the english language with that horrble rhetoric. please except my most profound apology! and tell me, where did you find these little pieces of heaven, so that i too might enlighten these poor poor people of this great city of ours."
That evening we sat in and watched neighbours, NCIS and one tree hill (of course) and ate our krispy kreme doughnuts (of course) One of the best nights since we arrived here!
so now its wednesday, and i do not believe it... i it was almost like the first time tryin krispy kreme, i was lying in bed, typing this and eva gets up... and actually says to me... do i want toast... i couldnt believe my ears, i had to take a photo, eva, offering to make ME breakfast.. well.. i love this country.
so for breakfast, toast followed by our final sugar glazed krispy kreme... oh yes. (churchill nods)

<3 fiona!
eva updating again, stu's too busy reading. we finally made a visit to the oz experience office place thing the other day, (http://www.ozexperience.com/) basically its a hop on, hop off bus specifically for back packers and we were going to use it to travel up the gold coast to cairns, stopping off at places like frazer island along the way. took us aaaages to get there, we knew that it was on george street, but we didnt realise it was about number 800 on the road rather than about 200 that we usually get to before we crash out and buy donuts. the place had loads more leaflets than the sta travel place telling you of things to do on your travels, the one that caught stus eye was the sky diving (oh dear) we asked the adviser there a few questions before leaving to get much needed food!
Surprise, surprise we ended up in none other than kfc, this one had 3 floors and fire places, they werent lit thankfully! we got the train back to circular quay rather than walking this time and went back home to get ready for a night out!
Manly was our destination this evening, we got dressed up in our new clothes that we bought the other day and went to dinner with stuarts sister, shortly followed by her friend jane, and her friend justin. We both got steak for dinner, and kat had a salad. Around midnight the place was shutting so we went to a bar called 'The Dine' which was really nice, had several rooms and the one we stayed in had a live band playing music like guns n roses, the singer was fantastic!
Sunday was a lazy day. We had thought about going to the Aria's, which is basically the ozzie version of the brits, but after hitting the town, the town seemed to have hit back! Only in stuarts case however! So we watched it on tv instead, after a mass clearout of the kitchen. Gabrielle cilmi won 6 awards, an by the 2nd award we were already sick of hearing her thank you's, 6 awards for one person is just greedy! Share them out! She's only 17 years old, so collecting 6 aria's in the one evening is a pretty big achievement!
Today (monday) we relaxed in the backgarden, even saw a lizard! Stuart decided it would be fun to have a water fight, him with the only water bottle, i got completely and utterly drenched! later we went to the shops to get some healthy fruit and veg including star fruit! Stuart managed to finish his poriton of cabbage and green beans that was with his dinner which i think might be a first! well done! We spent the night in watching CSI type programs and now im in bed typing this. Tomorrow its only supposed to be 18 degrees, which is alot in comparison to sundays 27 degrees. I think the plan for tomorrow is to head into Sydney and check out the art gallery. Time will tell!

a taste of britain
g'day!
we managed to leave mosman today! we went on 2 ferrys, 3 buses and 4 trains - making good use of our weekly ticket!! we adventured to bondi junction to find that the kfc there (which we only discovered last weekend) has now shut down! words cant describe how upset we were. almost as upset as we were when we found that no one over here even knows what Pasoa is, never mind sells it! (pasoa is a fruity alcholic drink incase you were wondering)
anyhoo, we ventured to bondi beach to find some lunch, went to a place called Oporto. It seems to bepretty popular over here so we decided to give it a shot rather than diving straight to maccy dee's or hungry jacks (oz version of burger king) We bought our meal, served by 'Raoul', unfortunatly it was a different Raoul than the ones in the IrnBru ads! We went and sat on the grassy area to eat our meal, only to discover that Oporto could quite possibly be the worst slowest, fast food place known to man. Severly disapointed, we headed down to the beach only to catch about 20 mins of sun before it clouded over. So we went shopping instead! (i'd like to add here that me -eva- bought new flip flops before we got lunch)
the bus back to bondi junction was crowded but we still managed to fight our way to seats. Knowing there was a chance of going out to dinner tomorrow (sat) we went to buy smarter clothes seeing as neither of us brought any thing that wasnt made for the beach. I bought a rather lovely dress and almost a pair of heels, exept they never had my size in.Stu however, did manage to get new shoes which are extreeeeemly comfy he tells me.
Then it happened...
Stuart bought the first hat for his hat collection!
As well as buying new clothes, we came close to buying a puppy! We managed to resist the temptation, but you should have seen their cute little faces!!
Before getting the train back to town we made a stop at our new favorite shop, 'A Taste Of Britain' which has all the foods that they dont sell here, but you miss most from back home, eg. bisto gravy and proper choclate. We then came home, tucked into some pasta and gravy, and watched Alexander.
All in all, a pretty decent day!

A House In The Sun
hello all!
not posted anything in the past few days because we've not done much worth writing about. Monday it was raining so we had a lazy day and watched movies and chilled oooot. we ate some dairy milk chocolate which isnt nice over here :( the twirls taste even worse.
Yesterday we got our ozzie bank cards sent out and tried to sort money things out, but turns out we cant use internet banking to transfer money from our uk accounts to our oz accounts cos oz account numbers have an extra number than the uk ones, and the internet site wont let us type that extra character. Bit of a farce really. After that we went a wander on the same way that stu goes his runs in the morning, tried to take some photos on my broken camera, theyre ok, all really dark though. A mysterious circle has appeared on the viewfinder, which cant be a beer mark because its too exact. Very odd. At night we got the bus to Neutral bay and met kat and jane to go ice skating, and have our first Australian kfc !!!! nom. the drinks come in cans and bottles rather than coming from a postmix tap.
Dont know the plan for today yet, but its another sunny day!

Strewth!
two posts in one day?! whats happening?!
this morning we sat trying to sort the last post so we could actually put it up to be viewed, took ages because the photo uploader is so slow (technology these days) but its up now, hurrah. Then we had some more mango before setting out for the day, mmm.
First things first, had to get me(stu) some sunglasses caus my eyes were beginning to crinkle from having them half closed all the time cause its so god damn bright! Sadly however, still no hat in the hat collection... We then went and got the sea cat as apposed to the ferry over to Sydney. Once again the sun is shining down and it feels warmer than the day before. theres some palm trees on the way to ferry, they is big and cool. Stuart almost lost his phone on the sea cat. That woulda been reeeeeally bad seeing as technically it costs more than my camera did, but its ok, i (eva) came to the rescue and got the phone before it was lost forever. Phew!

First stop in Sydney was the STA travel place where the advisor lady was of no help at all and provided no advice at all. she was 100% useless. we left with the few leaflets she gave us and decided to hit the shops to buy some munchies for a picnic. We both found it really odd that Woolworths here is like a morrisons or asda rather than a woolworths that you'd find back in scotland. Thats where we bought our small feast of chicken slices, rolls, crackers and water.
After meeting Katherine very briefly outside her work we headed towards the botanic gardens which is just past the opera (got the spelling right) house. Didnt walk very far into the park before stopping on the grass and getting stuck in. Some small, cheeky birds came up and we shared some lunch with them. This was before they decided to declare war on some bigger birds for trying to steal our fantastic company from them. (Im sure it wasnt just the bread that they were after)

After relaxing in the gardens for a couple of hours we started to head back and caught a ferry just in time to get home. Stopping at the off-license to buy some "Tooheys" which is a popular kind of australian beer. Which we'll report back tomorrow on if it matches the high standards set by the almighty tennants.
