hello from byron bay! we're currently sitting in an internet cafe on the main street here before we go hit the beach for a while, stu's wanting to rent a surf board for a few hours because he loved his surf lesson at spot x so much!
travels began on monday, leaving sydney at half 6 on the oz experience bus, first guide we got was Uncle Buck who filled us in on some interesting facts on the way up the road, such as - Someone managed to survive the fall from the sydney harbour bridge because they were wearing welly boots, which broke his fall! We stopped off at a few places along the way to surf camp, we visted a koala hospital which was run all by voulenteers, there was about 6 or so koalas there, with a range of ages. They looked so huggable! the next place we stopped off at was this really large field which had litterally thousands of kangaroos! so we saw the 2 most remembered ozzie animals in one day! They look so funny when theres a bunch of them that start hopping about!
Just before reaching surf camp, uncle buck took us to a drive through bottle shop, well it was ment to be, they normally just come out to your car at the drive trhough, you tell them what you want then, they got it for you without you having to move... but we had a bus load of crazy alcoholic backpackers so we all went in. me and eva chipped in with 5 other people and got 3 big crates of beer, (24 per crate), and a bottle of vodka. we thought it would last us to byron... it didn't.
surf camp was an amazing amazing place, it was like kind of secluded with its only kind of beach with really good waves for learning on. bout 4+ft high. but it was so chilled out, like they had long couches round the camp fire, and it was just like a total paradise atmosphere! We'll get sum pictures up as soon as we can. Surfing is the best thing ever!
so leaving surf camp the following day and heading to byron bay! first stop... subway! and all you people out there who have ever eaten with me, i actually had lettuce, green peppers, jalapinos, and carrot od my subway! as well as chicken. think the carrot was a bad choice though.
so next stop, was this stunning viewpoint over our tour guides most favourite beach in australia. It looked stunning, but it was soooooo windy. we seen two people out kite surfing, and that looked absolutely mental. i think i would rather jump out of a plane..
after that, it was just a short trip to byron bay. so..
Byron Bay. First night uncle buck had organised and booked a table for us all at cheeky monkeys night club at 7.30, which is across the road from the hostel. really cheap food, and lots of free beer. i mean lots. we spent 7 dollers on 2 beers, and then had free beer for the rest of the night. like jugs. even though we were all very fragile from our drinking session the night before at surf camp. So we didn't stay out all night, left about half 11-12. They made it really fun though, like had a lot for the "oz experience" crowd. (including free beer). so defo recomend it.
The next day us and a few of the other oz experience people left byron at 10 on 'jims alternative tours' where they took us to a few different places such as a pub where we got to try macadamia nuts, then we went to Nimbin, the australian hippy village! then off through the rainforest to meet Paul, who owns hundreds of acres of land full of trees and has his own little lake too. we met other scottish people on this trip that are staying at our hostel. we arrived back for about 6. We met up with the other oz experience folks that didnt go on the tour and we all chipped in for 6 big pizzas from dominos before heading down the the beach to eat and just have a relaxed evening.
we'll upload photos as soon as we get the chance!
